About Me

Nani Smith

Nani Dominguez Smith is a writer, podcast cohost, and communications strategist from Oakland, California with over five years of experience in multimedia storytelling. Through independent research and analysis of pop psychology topics, her work aims to help readers and listeners cultivate healthier relationships with themselves.

In the short time she has been building her communications business, NDS Consulting, she has partnered with corporate healthcare giants such as Kaiser Permanente, academic institutions such as the University of California, Davis, and several wellness brands and local Bay Area non-profit organizations. Her work has been featured in Adweek, Spotify, the California Museum of Sacramento, and the Bulosan Center for Filipinx Studies.

As a published writer and communications consultant, Nani has been writing about health, lifestyle, and wellness topics for half a decade. With that said, her content and strategy are crafted from an educational fabric intended to support Filipino American women navigating the complexities of their dual identities and create a safe space for anyone who wants to explore their personal narrative. In this regard, Nani believes your life is a series of stories rather than a novel; a conclusion she has drawn from her multimedia storytelling experience. By providing a platform for others to share their stories, she has learned to lean into her own authenticity.

Nani brings a family-style approach to her work that fosters partnership as much as it does productivity. To that end, she attributes this empowering dynamic to her heritage and considers it one way she honors her cultural background while simultaneously leaning into her individual strengths. One of her favorite quotes from interviews she has conducted for The Filipino American Woman Project podcast is "Family is integral to the experience of the Pinay." by Marissa Tirona in EO103 What originally started as a cathartic process for Nani eventually hardened into a responsibility to serve the community she has built.

As a Filipina American mother, writer, podcaster, and self-help junkie born and raised in the Bay Area, the layers of Nani’s multifaceted identity are evident in the work she creates. Like many other hyphenated Americans, she sees herself as a bridge between the communities that have contributed to her foundation, and feels obliged to be in service to them. In showcasing all sides of herself, she hopes to inspire you to find beauty in allowing multiple truths to coexist.
